First reading: Hypothesis about free voluntary reading

In this mind map you will be able to find a brief explanation about the four hypothesis set up by Stephen Krashen in regards to free voluntary reading. These are:

  • The forgetting hypothesis
  • The unawareness of acquisition hypothesis,
  • The effortless reading hypothesis 
  • The comprehension checking hypothesis 

These hypothesis have in common that they share one perspective, and that one is the importance of having an interesting reading so the learner could be able to forget that he's learning in a different language.

In this research project done by Carlos Carrillo and José Guillermo Rodríguez Segura they have a proposal model for new ways and strategies that teachers should implement in the classrooms to improve the EFL learning process.  They did this research in Universidad La Gran Colombia with one student that had some difficulties. Taking in the account the information in the research some of the conclusions, were that is necessary that institutions improve their conditions like resources, time distributions and of course the teachers they have assigned in order to take care of the process. So there is needed to go further so we can improve those conditions.
